A man told today how he was shot three times in a London street for wearing a Barack Obama T-shirt.
Dube Egwuatu was buying a mobile telephone top-up card in an off-licence when the gunman confronted him and glared at the top, which carries an image of the Democrat US presidential candidate underneath the legend ‘Believe’.
The man then launched into a tirade of racist slurs, shouting ‘I f ing hate n s’ and urging 36-year-old Mr Egwuatu to leave the shop with him.
 
The man then left the shop but when Mr Egwuatu re-emerged, the attacker was waiting for him in broad daylight with a threatening-looking dog and holding a gun behind his back.
Realising what had sparked the increasingly violent assault, the terrified Mr Egwuatu zipped up his jacket to cover the image of Mr Obama and walked to his car.
But the shaven-headed man, who was white,  followed Mr Egwuatu and after pulling open the passenger door pointed the gun at him.
After pleading with the man to leave him alone, the married former street warden put the keys in the ignition and turned the engine on.
The attacker then fired the gas-powered ball-bearing pistol three times, hitting the civil servant in the face, hand and shoulder.
Fearing for his life and bleeding heavily, Mr Egwuatu raced away in his car and found somewhere safe to call for help.
He was taken to hospital and later sent to have a piece of metal removed from his jaw.
Mr Egwuatu, a data analyst with Croydon Council, said: ‘The venom in his voice was frightening.
‘He was telling me that he was going to kill me.
‘I couldn’t believe it was happening - and just because I was wearing an Obama T-shirt. He was trying to make me walk somewhere quieter, saying: ‘I’ve got something for you,’ and ‘I’m going to kill you.’
He added: ‘Obama inspires me, his educational track record alone is quite unbelievable - that is why I was wearing the T-shirt.
‘I did not think for one minute it could stir up such powerful feelings of hatred and I never said a word to him.’
Mr Egwuatu’s wife, Angela, 35, said neither of them had experienced anything like it during their childhood in Nigeria.
Mrs Egwuatu, an immigration officer, said: ‘At first my feelings were pure horror and now it is pure anger.
‘If he had been carrying a real gun I would have been a widow. It is just ridiculous.
‘I don’t know how a person’s mentality works. Why would a T-shirt get you to the point where you want to shoot someone.’
To the untrained eye, ball-bearing guns like the one used in the attack look every bit like a real firearm.
The potentially lethal weapons are often converted by criminals to fire real bullets, and can be bought easily in high-street shops and on websites.
The Met said it was investigating the incident, which took place in South Norwood, and that police searched a nearby house which the attacker was seen going into.
No one has been arrested.

This week before the Labor Day weekend has proved to be more than a little strange for our local real estate market.  Even in our market we see an average of 6 to 8 pended listings per day during the week, with Monday being the big spike after the weekend.  That was not true this week.  When a normal Monday produces 8 to 10 sales, this Monday saw a grand total of.ONE pended listing!!!  Tuesday proved to be not much better with only 2 pending sales.  Even more intriguing was Wednesday with a fairly normal 8 sales, but, of the six site built homes entered into escrow, ALL were foreclosure homes sales!!
Thursday and Friday ended up being similar to Monday and Tuesday with a total of 7 sales for the 2 day period.  Now, what really makes this odd is, we have been REALLY, REALLY busy!!  Our top producing agents have been showing homes like mad, often going out to show homes 2 or 3 times per day!  Many of our agents have been on the road EVERY day for the past 6 to 8 days showing homes to 2, 3 or even 4 prospective buyers in a single day.
OK, so where are the sales?  Just around the corner.  We have seen a shift in our local market and now all the pent up demand by bargain hunters, first time buyers and investors is starting to show.  The buyers know there are great deals to be had and our market is nearing the bottom and the buyers are coming to pick their special deal from the tree.  For the first time since Hurricane Katrina it looks like our fall and winter sales wiil go up, not down.
For buyers and sellers now is the time to act.  Sellers need to get their home on the market and priced right to attract the buyers.  Buyers need to find those special deals before the market starts back up and the great deals are all snapped up.  This could be the start of our next big market shift and a return to a sellers market.

Dalai Lama has been hospitalised due to abdominal pain and could undergo surgery tomorrow, a senior doctor said, but his spokesman insisted that he was only undergoing routine tests.
The spiritual leader was admitted to a state-run New Delhi hospital overnight following media reports that abdominal pains for which he had spent four days in a Mumbai hospital in August had recurred.

Hospital chief Nalini Kaul declined to comment on the Dalai Lamas health or what treatment he would receive but the Press Trust of India, quoting unnamed sources, also said the monk was likely to be operated upon tomorrow.

But a rep for Lopez tells Access Hollywood that the singer/actress never interviewed with the site.
“Jennifer Lopez did not do an interview for the Daily Beast,” her rep tells Access Hollywood.
Lopez did, however, do an interview with Kevin Sessums for this month’s ELLE cover story, but after the first of what was supposed to be a two-part interview took place, Lopez and her team “weren’t comfortable with the questioning,” according to the star’s rep, who acknowledged that they asked that another writer interview Lopez instead.
The Daily Beast discloses that Sessums’ removal from the ELLE cover story did indeed take place, writing on their site, “The interview was originally done for a major fashion magazine, which removed Sessums from the story after Lopez regretted some of her comments and asked that the story not be published.”
“The story accurately reports what Kevin Sessums learned from Ms. Lopez in his interview,” a rep for the Web site tells Access. “He owns the story and The Daily Beast was happy to publish it.”
A source close to the situation tells Access that after Sessums was removed from the story, he allegedly threatened everyone, including ELLE Magazine. Access’ source also claims Sessums was not authorized to give the Lopez interview to The Daily Beast and is not sure if the quotes on the Tina Brown news Web site are accurate.
Access reached out to Sessums, who deferred to The Daily Beast for comment.
Lopez’s rep confirmed to Access that a legal letter has been sent to Sessums regarding the interview. ELLE magazine was also contacted for comment, but has not yet been reached.

Have you noticed that theme songs on TV and in the movies are basically non-existent these days? Theyve been replaced by pop tunes or nothing at all. Im not sure which is worse. I just know that I miss them.

Most of all, I miss Super-Heroic theme music. Superhero themes have also been replaced with pop music or generic soundtrack music. Some you dont want to remember (ahem, Smallville). Others are totally forgettable. Can you remember any of the music in Batman Begins, the X-Men or Spider-man movies? I cant. And these films were seen by MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people.

But, can you remember the music to the Christopher Reeve Superman movies or the Michael Keaton Batman films? Of course you can.

These theme songs were as powerful and inspiring as the heroes themselves, yet completely and wonderfully tied to those characters. They ran as leitmotifs throughout the films and played whenever your hero entered the screen. Your heart raced and you couldnt help but smile and feel powerful and heroic too.

Perhaps we are going through a period in which it is not cool to have theme music. Its as if producers and directors are saying, Audiences are too hip for cheesy theme music. What a colossal load of crap. We crave theme music. We love theme music. We need theme music.

Or maybe the real problem is that composers dont know how to make great theme music anymore. The only recent theme music in a comic book film that I can remember is Superman Returns and that film basically just reused John Williams original Superman score. And all that really did was make me want to re-watch Christopher Reeves Superman: The Movie and Superman II.

The tagline for the first Reeve movie was ll believe a man can fly.

And when you heard that theme music, you believed it. It was magic. It wasnt matter-of-fact like todays heroes. That music was a thing of marvel and joy. It gave you chills and you were thankful for it.

There has been a wonderful pedigree of superhero themes since comic book heroes have taken to the screen, starting with Max and Dave Fleischers in 1941 (just a few short years after the genre was even invented).

Well, Ive been in SL now for a couple of months and Im enjoying it. I think. Its expensive thats because Im fussy.
In RL as I have learned to call it - I will never say I really must get a life ever again because now I have two - I am a stylist. I work with people to put things together for certain events, or media undertakings. I dont much want to talk about it not to mention the confidentiality agreements I have to sign (LOL, as I have also learned to say.)
So its been interesting watching me evolve in SL. I keep trying to get closer to a good look but its really interesting.
In RL I have clients, each one who has a job, a look, a presence or a need. In SL Im starting Twisted off with a clean slate. She doesnt have a job, or a personality or anything so I must admit Im finding it hard to style her.
Skins are the killer. Theyre expensive and disappointing, or expensive and sensational. So far, MMS, Gala, and Bianca Foulon are doing it best for Twisted.
